Yoga During Fertility Treatments

Fertility treatments can bring disappointment, uncertainty, and stress. Yoga can provide a space for relaxation, breathing, and reconnecting with the body.

Women's Yoga pays particular attention to the pelvic floor, the relationship between breathing and the pelvic floor, deep stabilizing muscles, posture, and changes throughout the menstrual cycle and during treatment.

The practice can be adapted to the stage of treatment and to how a woman feels at that time. Gentle breathing, supported positions, movement, and periods of rest can all have a place.

The original practice described in this article includes positions such as supported reclining bound angle, cat, wide-legged sitting, butterfly, legs up the wall, and pelvic lifting, with cautions about adapting practice after treatment and during menstruation.

The aim is to develop awareness and self-help: understanding the pelvic floor, its relationship with the breath, posture, movement, pauses, and the changes that accompany the cycle and hormonal treatment.

Any practice during fertility treatment should be adapted to the individual situation and to guidance from the woman's medical team.
